I bought a brand new iMac 24-inch 2 weeks ago. (Do you think I should insist that they upgrade me to Snow Leopard?)
But my real problem is that I am trying to use my old iMac G4 to continue working from a separate location. I am a freelance graphic artist, and one of my major clients has upgraded all of their software, so the jobs I will be receiving from them are newer than the versions I have on this Mac.
You cannot save backwards from Quark 8 to 6, I know, it stinks! So I bought the upgrade for Quark 8. It is fine on the new Mac, but requires Tiger, OS 10.4, to install on the old Mac. I am running 10.3.9. Apple no longer sells upgrades to 10.4. The only site I could find that still sells 10.4 upgrades is MegaMacs, and they have this in the description of the product:
"Special note: This software is an OEM CPU drop-in DVD and requires 10.3 installed already to upgrade. It may not work on all machines with LCD monitors built in (laptops & iMac G4/G5's)."
That's what I have, the iMac G4 with LCD monitor, but I DO have 10.3.9 already installed, ready to upgrade.
Should I give up? Do you think it might work? At $160 is it worth the risk?
Thanks.
