Trying to sync new Mac to iphone

I just got a new Mac computer for Christmas and I'm making to transition over from the PC world and I have quite a bit to learn. The one thing I can't figure out is that I have my hotmail email set up on my phone and I just got it set up in my mail program on my computer. However, the two are not syncing. I wan't to be able to read/delete/forward on one and it shows those same actions on the other. How do I do this? You help is very much appreciated!

If you still have the included whit USB2 to 30 pin cable (a typical iPhone cable) just plug it into the Mac and then launch /Applications/iTunes (it should be in your Dock also). When in iTunes, in the left display window, highlight the 'Devices' word and in then in the right pane click on 'Info' tab and make sure you sync all the contacts and email accounts tot he phone.

Now in the iPhone, from the Home screen, click on the 'Settings' pane for the iPhone. When the Settings pane opens go down the setting for 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars and add your Hotmail Live email account.
