No, the big gun still soaked their batteries dry. I agree that the ship design was pretty poor.
The funny thing is; through a bizzarre series of (real life) events, the first 6 or so eps made, which JMS was allowed full control of, ended up airing last! The details of how and why this occurred are described somewhere within the website I mentioned earlier.
Anyway - those 6 were oustanding. Leaps and bounds better than the rest, which TNT had stuck their ignorant noses into. It was hard to believe it was the same show...
