Two Panther Blessings

Panther has been treating me well, of late:

:D 1. Panther comes bundled with PHP Version 4.3.2, easily activated by 'uncommenting', and nicely configured out-of-the-box.

:D 2. You can open and edit the master Hosts file to block IPs or domains, and it works right then and there...very simple and effective.

It's turning out to be an excellent OS, with a little help from sudo/pico.

In my experience, the version of php you get with OS X is bare bones; you don't get the nice, spiffy libraries to do all of the fancy stuff...

I agree. I have had to rebuild PHP every time I upgrade to the latest major release (i.e Jaguar, Panther).

This last time was a bit of a headache because Apple included BIND9 and got rid of support for BIND4 (BIND8 had backwards compatibility, apparently BIND9 does not), so PHP would crash in the Make phase when you got to dns.o Thank God the PHP people only took 2 weeks to update PHP 4.3.2 to RC3 and fixed that problem.
