Two Problems...

I need to help on my Mac OS X:

1. Whenever I try to open files on my Mac such as Firefox and Windows Messenger for Mac, they appear on the Dock for 2 seconds, bouncing up and down like if you open a program, then disappear off the Dock and nothing happens. How can I open these programs?

2. I'm trying to install Yahoo! Messenger as an alternative, but whenever I try to install it it says Error-95 No-Mountable-Systems. What does this mean and how do I stop it?

Please no responses that say "Try Adium" and so on, I really want these programs to be fixed.

Thank you for your help.

I tried launching them from Applications, and still the same thing happens.

All I have for Yahoo! Messenger is the .dmg file. I tried the search in those instructions and no results appeared.

Thanks for the welcome :)

I use Mac OS X, and sorry but I don't know what u mean by specifications ^^U

I think it might be that I have bad RAM? I know a bit about RAM, but not much. Can I free up space on it?

Sorry, I meant what version of Mac OS X do you have ?

Mac OS 10.x.x ... please fill in the x bit. Go to the apple icon in the upper left of the menu bar and click it then select "About This Mac"

A smallish window will then appear and from it you should be able to post your Processor type, how much RAM and the OS X version ....

Ahhh, you are using Jaguar (10.2.8), I had a feeling you may have been ... I found this link:

Error 95/Can't Mount Disk Images

Have you tried another user account to check if this is a System Wide issue? If you don't have another account you could create on in System Prefs.

Try logging out then back in before you go through the advice in the link, you never know ...

I nearly forgot, this question has been asked here before ...

error 95 (no mountable file systems)

I'm off to bed now so I'll check back in the morning (my time) to see how you got on and what others have suggested ... :)

Also which versions of those applications are you running?

When the version is not supported in the version of OS running, the process may just die so the application exits after a few seconds of bouncing on the dock.

Messenger 7.0.1 will not work;
Operating System Versions: Mac OS X version 10.4.9 (Tiger) or a later version of Mac OS

Anything above 4.0.1 will not work in 10.2.8.
4.0.1 will work in 10.2.8 (from same link, below) but it is rather old.
You could also give Adium, release 0.8.9 a shot - this should also work in 10.2

For Firefox, http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/system-requirements.html FF 3 will not work, but FF 2 wil http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/system-requirements-v2.html
