Heh... well, the rumor sites were wrong -- it doesn't come preloaded with ANY U2 songs...
Well, you could say they were wrong, but then again this is quite similar. I don't see many people buy this U2 iPod without also buying the U2 400 songs. I'd say the rumour sites were pretty right about it.
Sidenote: I think this iPod isn't such a good move. I had hoped it'd be _all_ black. Really bad iPod from hell. Back black, too. This one's really only for U2 fans...

I know, I know, there's always subtle differences between what is predicted and what is acutally released -- a gift certificate good for all U2 albums is pretty much the same as coming pre-loaded with the songs, but now Apple gets to add those U2 album downloads to their total tally of how many songs have been downloaded... in the words of the Guinness beer commercials, "Brilliant!"

Greyscale iPod remains at the same price point... I doubt they'd drop the price on it just because a color iPod is released. Apple will probably keep these price points through Christmas: there's rarely a price drop this close to the holidays, for obvious monetary-benefit-for-the-big-company reasons. People are probably gonna buy iPods as gifts whether they drop in price or not.

So, anyone think they are going to keep the black ipod after the holidays minus the u2 moniker and drop the price down flat as the original. Red is hot like atom bomb then it will probably cool off a bit still be black with a grey click wheel come January. White, Black, Gray ipod. I wouldn't mind a grey ipod with a white click wheel.

The price of the U2 iPod is the same as the regular 20GB iPod, but they throw in a $50 gift certificatefor U2 music... it works out to be the same exact price as the regular 20GB iPod -- but you just don't have the choice of purchasing it at the same price point because of the included gift certificate.

Oh, you mean the iPod Photo! How silly of me! How could I overlook a small detail like that. Especially that u in color.
U2 iPod is a limited edition and we will probably see a John Mayer iPod next year or some other music artist.
So far I am glad they released the iPod Photo instead of the rumored flash player because that would seem like a downgrade to me. I look forward to the closure of the color iPod thread soon.
