Just purchased new macbook pro, set it up to use current internet provider. Although it sees and connects to the router it says no internet connection. Has anyone else come up against this problem and if so can you suggest a remedy??

Thanks for your help

Open System Preferences>Network pane. When the Network pane opens select you internet connected port. Then in the right pane window select the 'Advanced' button. When the Advanced drop down shows select the DNS tab and see if it is getting a DNS IP from your router. Then consider getting a free DNS service like OpenDNS (they have an instructional video) or GoogleDNS.

Using these third party DNS servers might make you surfing go faster.
