Hi Zammy-Sam

Using Safari and Explorer.
Browsing sites such as Apple and Versiontracker goes fine, but downloading is not working. The download starts but then the Message is> cannot make or move file <

Hope you or someone else can help.

Thanks
Rosa

First, with Safari open, go to the Safari menu and select Preferences>General. What does it say under download?

Second, go to System Preferences and click on Network. Under the Location pull down menu is Show. Select how you are connected to the internet. At the very bottom of that window is Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV) Make sure that is checked.

You may need to click on the pad lock at the very bottom of the window (you will be asked to type in your log in password) in order to make any changes.

Once done, close System Preferences and give a download a try.

After you try that, you may want to try repairing permissions on the boot drive using Disk Utility. It sounds like whatever download location you have selected in the Safari preferences may be a destination that you don't have "write" access to.

Try what Cheryl said -- open Safari preferences and choose a download location that you have write privileges to, like the Desktop or your own user folder.
