Unable to drag icons or files on my ibookg4

Hey i am new to this i ust signed up..this seems like a great way to give aND GET HELP FOR MAC COMPUTERS.. my problem is i cannot drag icons and files on my ibook. and i already did the permissions stuff and restarted and pretrty much eevrything... i just wanted to know if anmyone had this problem and could help me...i cannot reinstall os x because i do not have the CDS so any help would be awesome!!!...also i need to be able to drag stuff so i can put the files i download into my aps folder so i can open them...so without the drag and drop i am pretty much screwed...so if anyone can please help me it would be great! thank you guys so much! have a blessed day!

Are you successful with moving files, if you use a USB mouse instead of the trackpad?

Here's something that you can try - might help, won't hurt:
Download the combined updater for your system.
If you have OS X 10.4, then this is the updater to download: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL170
Download, open, then run the updater .pkg file. It will force you to restart when complete. The combined updater will often fix odd glitches that show up in an OS X system.

If you have a large amount of files and folders on your desktop (large number could be a couple of hundred or so), then that can contribute to your problem, and can directly affect performance in the finder. When things are working again, you would want to clean up your desktop.
