unable to open iPhoto

Hi, I never had a problem with my G5 and Leopard but all of the sudden I can NOT open iPhoto....... despite getting the common window with relaunch or reset...... nothing seems to work...... also I am unable to run the the " repairs disk permissions " in the Disk Utility, it stops about 1 quarter into the process.
Everything else is working O.K.

please tell me what to do to correct the problem ????

Use the Leopard disk to start up the computer, then - do not do an install - use Disk Utility to scan the drive using Repair Drive, then Repair Permissions.
 
Cheryl-you might try zapping the pram for about 3 bells on a restart-- comm.opt-p&r keys all at same time on restart. might help.
