Beginning with startup, I am unable to select anything with the cursor. I have tried using a USB mouse and still no luck, though other functions (right clicking, etc.) works fine. The only control I seem to have is using the tab and keyboard shortcuts. Other keyboard functions seem to be working fine (caps, num lock, brightness control, volume control, etc.)
I have tried restarting, repairing permissions and verifying the disk using Disk Utility. I have tried resetting the PRAM. I have restarted w/o the battery (which is at the end of its life: full charge=~40 mins.)
When the computer attempts to load the screensaver, it seems to loop, starting and stopping about once per second to create sort of a "flashing" effect.
This has been happening for about the last few months, though it seems to be sporadic, fixing itself after some time, but this time it hasn't fixed itself.
I had read somewhere at one point that there was some correlation with the battery charge, but not certain of the details.
