Unable to trash empty folders by any means

I have stumbled on an old issue that I solved once before on a work machine but cannot recall how I fixed it.

I have a set of nested folders that simply cannot be removed. Not with force empty trash, not with the same feature in Onyx, and trying to do sudo results in "wrong password" - even though I use my Admin password (Do I really have to enable root and kill it with 'God's hand'?!).

I tried renaming the folders, in case it was a strange character issue (the original filenames were cryptic). I have full permissions to the files. I think there might be same strange hidden bit enabled on the folders.

Any thoughts, anyone?

PS - the last time I faced this, I'm thinking I might have had to enable root for this particular instance).

Had to enable root, mount my user's sparseimage, them delete the problem files off my desktop as root. No idea why sudo wouldn't recognize either an Admin OR a root password as well.
