Unassociating file types with applications

I downloaded the AC3 codec for Quicktime but didn't know how to install
it.
I attempted to open the codec component with Quicktime which has now
set an association of all codecs with Quicktime and has changed the
icon.
I have since found otu where to put the codec /Library/Quicktime but I
now want to undo the file association and get back the normal icon. How
can I do this as it only lets my change it to another Application and
not 'undo' or set the associtaion to 'none'.
