UnEarase Hard Disk in Raid 0 Array

Hi,

I need HELP! I accidently did an erase on a hard disk that was in a software raid 0 array. Now the raid doesn't work. Is there any tool or any way to recover from my bone-head move? Half of the raid stripe is still good and I haven't written over the other half. It's just been 'erased' through Disk Utility.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My babies photos and videos are on the raid and I would love to be able to get back these files.

Thank you to all in advance for posting a reply.

Unfortunately, in a RAID 0 setup, if one hard drive is erased, the data is gone forever.

There are extreme measures you can take, such as a professional data recovery service like DriveSavers -- but be aware that the cost of professional data recovery can run anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars... not to mention that even if the data is recovered, you may not be able to "assimilate" it back into the RAID. DriveSavers may be able to take both hard drives and reconstruct the RAID, but I would assume that this would be a very expensive undertaking.

You can also try home-based data recovery using programs like Data Rescue II, but again, this is hit-and-miss.

I think you're staring bad news in the face on this one. It is a good thing that you haven't written anything new to the drive, and you should continue this (leave both drives untouched). If the data is extremely valuable to you, the first thing I would do is contact a professional data recovery service and explain your exact situation to them and see what their recommendation would be (as well as ask about the chances of a full data recovery).
