I have a macbook pro, which has a resoultion of 1440x900. When I watch a DVD, will it upconvert it to HD quality like a DVD player with an HDMI port? Thanks

I'm no expert on HD and all of that, but I would think that the DVD would actually have to be encoded in HD quality for your computer or any player to play it in HD. Now that said, when you go full screen on your computer, the computer should scale the movie (up or down) to fit your screen.

I hope that answers your question.

Yes, it will. But this is nothing like having an actual HD source, either on HD players or PCs. All it really means is that the video will be scaled up using a decent scaling algorithm. In other words, it'll look blurry instead of blocky.

Your Mac can play just about any movie at full screen, and it will smoothly scale it to fit the screen. Marketers call this upconverting these days to make it sound impressive. ;)
