Updating Firefoc 2,2 to 3.8

I downloaded to desktop. Followed FF directions. Error message says I do not have permission to replace all the items in spite of being on an Admin account.

I assume since I am going from 2.2 to 3.8 it is like installing a new program. So... I am trying to figure out how to delete the old FF and then how I install the new FF.

I am trying to do this for a 79 year old lady (for free) and am much more PC knowledgeable. In fact, this is my 1st foray into Mac world. I am already out of sorts due to no right click. Any help would be most appreciated. And if you need any PC help, I'd be glad to return the favor. Actually I do not even know how to find out what OS X version this G4 Powerbook is running. Any ideas?

First, do not bold everything, since the eyes hate it as much as ALL CAPS.

Next, read the stickies and post the ladies computer configurations. This will let us know what version of FF is compatible with her computer.

Dunno what a sticky is, but I finally figured out she is running OS X 10.5.6

Now we need to know the other Mac specs--Model, Processor, RAM.

However, if you go to Firefox, and you are on the internet, you just need to click that. It will download:

and you follow the directions. She, or you, will need to enter her account Password to actually add it to her account's Applications.

Then, goeth thou to Here for Addons like Adblock.

You can Delete the old FF in two ways: stick the old icon from Applications into the Trash and empty. You can then search for other files with the name "mozilla"; however, I think the download of the new FF will update it in and off itself. You can also open the old FF and let it look for an update.

If you are really concerned about deleting the first FF then get AppCleaner or a similar program that will dump nearly all if not all of the various files. Then download the new FF.

1.67 Gigahertz powerbookPC G4
1 Gig Ram

it never gives an option to supply a password
it merely states she has not the required permissions
I followed all the directions and get the same reply over and over

"The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items."

PS-There are 71 pages of 'Stickies'. It will take me a few days to read them. If that precludes your help, I apologize for disturbing you. I did spend 2 hours searching posts before posting and used a descriptive title. I apparently missed the part about bold type and the hertz/RAM request, sorry again, but with 71 pages, it is a no brainer that an ADD, OCD Turrets sufferer like me would miss something. I will call Apple in the AM. Night.

She needs to sign in as an Administrator. Or you need to make sure you are in HER account and not some "Guest."

that was 1st thing I checked. ;)
The uninstall old version/install new version worked.
I suspect that FF did not recognize going from 2.2 to 3.8 as an 'Update'.
So thanks for the info,
and Good Night

Yeah, the 2.0.0.x version does not upgrade to the 3.0.x version. You have to manually download it and install it. It does, however, tell you that you need to upgrade to 3.0.x (if you can) if you're still running 2.0.0.x and that support has ceased for the 2.0.0.x branch.

It might work better to install Firefox in the home directory of the user account from which she is going to be using it. I did that with Firefox in my standard account, and it has never given me any grief. I have an Applications directory which I created within my home directory and that is where I put Firefox.
