updating osX 10.1 to 10.1.4??

I downloaded the update from apple's site but it wont let me install it?
It says I need an installer update, so I d/l'd the installer update, and it won't let me install the installer update ( my hard drives are grayed out in the installer window, I can't select them )

there are specific updates you need to install...I believe this proves to be useful, even if it's for 10.1.5: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106713
