Updating without system updater

Due to the fact i only have a 56k modem i dont really want to have to sit and wait for a 15Mb download. However university has a high speed line that takes about ten minutes to download it. Is it possible to transfer the downloaded update onto my imac. Or do i have to download it (slowly) via software update?

Help me please!
