upgrade to 10.4

I have a Mac OS X version 10.3.9.
My husband just bought me a LACIE hard disk quadra which requires version 10.4. Please let me know if the OS in my computer can be upgraded and if so how and if not how i can best transfer my videos and pictures into the LACIE. I have other MAC and microsoft laptops at home.


My Mac Spec:
Machine Model: PowerBook G4 17

Says you can have up to 10.5.8 on it if this is what Powerbook you actually have. Can't tell from your post.

How --> Use a DVD bought from Apple, Amazon, eBay ..etc..

You should only need to upgrade to 10.4 to use the software that the external HD uses to manage your backups. If you don't mind drag and drop backups, you could just reformat the external drive in Disk Utility to Mac OS extended (journaled) and it should work fine. But if you plan on using that drive on the windows machines also you are going to need to format the drive as MS-DOS.
