Upgrade to Apache 2.0 and Perl 5.8.0?

I have installed MacOs X.2.3.
Can someone suggest me if is better ugrade Apache to 2.0 and Perl to 5.8.0 or use built-in version?

I haven't made the leap to Apache 2, since Apple doesn't include it on the client version of OS X and it is only included in the Server version for 'evaluation purposes'. Apache 1.3.x is far more proven in the field, so I tend to think it is more reliable and is known to work well under OS X.

I have upgraded to Perl 5.8 per the instructions on this link:

The main gotcha is that you will have to fix your fink installation if you are running it as your package manager:
