Upgrading an external firewire optical drive?

I've got a Que! Fire 4x4x24x CDRW drive which I'd love to upgrade to a DVD-RW/CD-RW drive.

Anyone know if it's possible to/tried just swapping the 5.25" unit for eg a Pioneer A-03 DVD-RW/CD-RW drive?

These things just have a firewire -> IDE bridge in them don't they?
