Upgrading imac 233mhz cpu

Gee, they do look similar but not exactly. FWIW, I have never seen a Pismo daughter card advertised for use in an iMac, but Sonnet and PowerLogix used to carry like 600 and 500MHz G3 and G4 upgrade cards. Dunno if those ever show up on eBay though.

Problem with upgrading is the cost. Even after the not insignificant price of the card/cpu you still have basically an old machine and one that probably overheats and freezes.

I bought an upgrade for my G4 from OWC and it has been nothing but problems ever since. OWC was hostile soon as I isolated the card as the problem and I got stuck with it.

I would have been far better off putting the money towards a new Mac.

You simply _won't_ get a cheap way to make your very old iMac fast again - and even an upgraded iMac running at, say 500 MHz would still not make a "fast" computer in today's terms. (Not to forget: You'd still use the sub-par graphics etc.)

Your best bet in my opinion for finding a cheap better Mac: Used G4 Mac minis. You'll need some kind of display (but hey: almost anything's better than your iMac's screen...) as well for that, of course. But I'd work towards getting an old mini plus screen.
