Hi, I have just switched to apple from windows machines and have got myself a macbook and an iMac. When the new version of OS X comes out next year will I be able to purchase the upgrade once and use it on both machines, or will I need to buy it twice?

Thanks

There is also a family pack you can get that will let you legally install it on up to 5 machines I think the old pricing was $199 (the one license one was $129 IIRC).

Usually the os x system discs are device specific as well...

I actually got a generic "Upgrade" install of 10.4 packaged with an iMac G5. It will only run if you have 10.3 installed, they only threw it in to upgrade the disks.

This is true of the disks that ship with new computers. It is not, however, true of retail versions of the OS. Retail versions of the OS install on all supported [and via XPostFacto, some unsupported] Macs which are older than the version.
