Urgent help, please! PowerPoint X doesn't open old files

I've just received a large collection of slides for a five days presentation prepared in PowerPoint 2000 for windows. Now, the finder (the info window) recognizes these files as a PowerPoint presentation, but when opening them with PowerPoint X I get a message saying they are in an unreadable format! I've an important meeting starting next week, and can't use these files! Can anybody help me? Does it exists a converter around?
