USB Drives, recommendations?

Hey guys.

I realized something I need for Chirstmas. Do you guys know anything
about those USB keychain drives? There are so many different models, I was
wondering if you have heard of a specific model that is especially heavy
duty, or reliable.

I need one that is crush/scratch/water/force/shock proof and stores at
least 34gigs.

Kidding. But, i would like a decently tough one as I would carry it all
the time. Lemme know if you know anything about this! 128meg would be plenty for me. I plan to just back up important docs.

Hmmm... well, I inadvertently discovered a use for CompactFlash cards that I was using for my digital camera...

I hated having to plug in my camera every time I wanted to download new pictures because my Canon S200's USB cable was fragile and I was afraid that constant plugging and unplugging the cable from the camera might eventually lead to the wear down of the connector. I went out and purchased a cheap-o SanDisk USB CompactFlash reader for about $15. Although it's slow, it allows me to store whatever I want on my 128MB and 256MB CompactFlash cards, and it's so simple to use. It's about the size of a pack of cigarettes, or, for the non-smokers, about the size of a deck of playing cards (plus the USB cable). It's like having a tiny 128MB or 256MB portable drive that's rugged and compact.

This may not be the solution you're looking for, but it's simply great if you've got a camera to go along with it. Plus, I can purchase a new 256MB CF card for less than a 256MB USB keychain drive. I wouldn't trust these cards for backing up data for any extended period of time (I've never had any trouble with lost data on these cards, it's just that I wouldn't trust anything other than another hard drive or a CD for back ups) but they're great for transporting stuff to and from wherever.

As for the rugged portion of your request, these CF cards are rated for a 10-foot drop onto concrete and still retain data, and since I don't know of anyone that's 10 feet tall and has slippery fingers as well, that's rugged enough for me!

I have a 256MB Sony MicroVault. (Keychain). At one point I had it totally filled up. I plug it into my hub and on the desktop is a disk icon.

Sony equipment? For backup?

Have you ever heard of Sony Time? It's about right after the warrenty goes out, it breaks. That's sony time!

Hrm.... maybe the military can get me some cool gear...

This is about the geekiest thing I've ever bought, but over the weekend went down to the bright lights of Wagga Wagga (pop. 65, 000) looking to buy a watch and a USB Drive to transfer files between home and work and ended up getting both - the DSE Dataspy. So far its been working fine and has a 3 year warranty.

I have a FujiFilm 128 MB "disk on key" drive I got free from a MS Office upgrade package. Works pretty good, except the paint kind of wears off; kinda cool actually, to scrape it off and see the electronics inside.

But my company bought a couple of those MiniCruzer drives and they're physically smaller and include a lanyard and a little lock on the side - presumably it makes it read only; haven't tried it.
