User Monitoring and Accounting

I have a dual G4 (10.2.5) connected to a network and with NIS set up so that a significant number of users can access the machine.

I was wondering how much support there is (probably from the Darwin) side of things for monitoring their usage and keeping an accouting log (e.g. who is logged on, who logged on and how long for).

In /var/log there is a monthly.out file that seems to have summaries of usage, but is something more up to data and more detail available?

...or the who or w commands will show you a list of currently logged in users. Or maybe rwho - I dunno which NIS would use (rwho is for remote users, though usually they're actually listed under who in most cases).
