Hi Guys,
I welcome myself to your site with this dreadful problem.. that may be easy to fix .. I do hope so.

I accidentally changed me User profile name (under Users of course) and suddenly could not get access to any of my resources, mail of 1 year (Thunderbird .. the best email client) my Favourites (firefox) and all my settings were whfft.. GONE!

I have been doing searches to find the mail and cannot find a way to link to it all.. I so need it too.

I hope some charitable and T'bird competent person can help.

Cheers from Sunny Queensland,
Ciao, Denis of OZ

the best thing to do is change your username back to what it was. os x is very picky about it. and unless you changed it correctly with netinfo manager, you are going to have lots of nightmares like this. even then there can still be problems.

Yea thanks for your reply, I realised the error of my ways immediately once I had done it and changed the name back but it would not accept it back and could not get my info back.

Aaagghhh! Yikes, and now I cant find my preferences, Faves, Mail (Firefox &T'bird) and all my valuable info.

Can ANYONE shed any 'how to' light on this dark little problem please.

Thanks for trying to help Ashka the Kiwi!
Sadly, following the Mac helplines advice I moved manually all the folders into the new profile's folder. Just like the site you sent me to, the OS did not let me rename the home folder back.

Really what I need to do now is to reclaim the access to my Thunderbird Mail and Firefox, Safari and IE favourites, all of which took a LONG time to accumulate.

If ANYONE knows how to do that I would be SO SO grateful!

All the rest I can rebuild over time. Mostly I need the Forefox & Thunderbird links and data restored and reconnected. Any clever folks out there have any clues please? This is painful!
Cheers from an ex Waikato bloke on the sunny Gold Coast ..

well, i don't use those apps, so sadly, i have no idea where to find the info. i most likely could help you if the mac was right in front of me.

User Library > Application Support or User Library > Caches would be the place to start. Might be worth checking the main Library files too.
Maybe a local (Gold Coast) Apple User group could help:
