User name changed now cant boot

Hi, I've unfortunately changed the username via the hard disk and not the accounts section. Now my mac (OS 10.5, Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5) cant boot past the grey screen with the logo.
I'm told I'll probably now have to use unix commands to rename the directory I changed, and assuming this is correct I am going to be in desperate need of instructions of how to do this.

I've done the same thing to mine and I can't fix it.

The new, empty user account has the house icon. The old account (that I'm trying to revert to) has the grey Network orb icon with a shortcut arrow. I can rename the new account ok but the old one won't let me. I've included the info here:

Kind: Alias
Size: 0KB on disk (Zero bytes)
Where: /Users
Created: Tuesday, 23 September 2008 19:35
Modified: Thursday, 18 December 2008 03:16
Original: Users/Oscar

I don't know how much of that is relevant. When I click Name & Extension the box is shaded and I can't edit it. I've tried restarting with only the new User renamed and it doesn't make a difference. Does anyone know how I can rename the old account?

That's an alias you are trying to rename.
The users are in [Macintosh HD or however you have renamed your harddrive]/Users/
