Using Safari and accessing Apple

I have a strange problem. On my PowerPC G5 2.7GHz, running 10.5.3, Safari (3.1.1) cannot access the internet at all - Firefox works fine. In addition, Software Download doesn't work and I can't access the iTunes store. Using my MacBook Pro on the same network I don't have any problems. For all of these it says that the server can't be located. As I say, FireFox is ok and I also use FirstClass which works ok.

I tried reinstalling Safari but was told that I needed 10.5.2 or later!!! I've reset Keychain logins using keychain First Aid.

Any suggestions?
