Using SMB in 10.2

I am the law!
I'm on a lan that has 2 macs and 2 pcs. I was able to connect to one of the PCs using the connect to server command, but I had to enter the full path of the sharename to get it to work [just like in 10.1].

I turned on smb sharing from the sharing prefs pane, but I cannot connect to my G4 from a win2k machine. I put in \\ip address in the run window and it asks for a login and password, but it wont take my user information. If I leave the fields blank it shows the shared printer icon.

I installed samba in 10.1, but I disabled it in the samba control panel. I wonder if they are conflicting? I have no idea how to uninstall the samba server though :(

I thought this was supposed to be fixed? Has anyone else had the same experience?

There are conflicts between the samba install on 10.1 and the built-in samba on 10.2. Some users on the boards here have reported that disabling the samba add-on from 10.1 will fully disable samba. So, yes, you are right on that count.

I find the 10.2 connection to Windoze XP works very well. It is even faster than Dave. But, because the 10.2 implementation of samba does not broadcast on the network, the 10.2 machine does not show up in the network neighborhood in XP. This makes connecting from XP to the mac very cumbersome and the shortcut I put on my desktop often breaks for some reason.

I would try going back to using DAVE but I had big problems trying to uninstall it after doing an upgrade 10.2 install and it disable the built in windows networking in Jag. Even after a clean install I sometimes get the message "DAVE has cancelled your logout". It seems there is still some part of DAVE lurking somewhere.
