Using the modem in PowerBook (PC) G4 as a voice MODEM to make regular calls

Hi, Please read as given as I do not want to repeat myself. Any silly remarks will be ignored.

I want to use the voice capable modem in my Powerbook G4 (PPC), with OS X 10.4.11, to make regular calls to landlines (to record calls for legal purposes, and yes I have read the law on this).

My area of frustration is the fact that NO-ONE seems to be making software anymore to do this. Does anyone know of any software that will enable me to use the internal VOICE modem (Apple yesterday confirmed that I DO have a voice capable modem) as a regular phone?

I have tried using ABDialer but all it does is call numbers in the phone book and then doesn't do anything else.

I need to be able to use the Apple VOICE MODEM as a REGULAR phone.

I have spent over 5 days trying to find a solution and have been completely pissed off that something that I could do on my 486 laptop back in 1997 is now impossible to do although ALL laptops still come with modems included (although not voice capable!!!!). I also tried using Supervoice but Mac support stopped for this excellent software (which is what I used back then).

I have also purchased TWO external devices to try and do the same thing - to record the calls on the telephone line. These items had to be sent back as they did not work as advertised.

Why the hell is this so damn difficult to do these days? This was EASY to do 13 years ago!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated, but not any remarks asking WHY I want to do this etc,. I have already explained that. And I do not want to use ETHERNET and spend money on calls when I have all the services in place to make free calls to the USA (which is why I need a modem to use the regular land line).

It is not 1997 any more. No amount of shouting is going to change that. Unfortunately, there are quite a few things that we could do with computers in 1997 that are much more difficult or impossible to do today. My suggestion to you is to get your head out of 1997, rethink how you would solve your problem in 2010, and try to acquire to resources required to implement the solution.

Why not use some software for making the calls instead? VOIP makes more sense than landline. And you can still record them.
Skype (though it may cost a few cents to do long calls to landlines or international) for instance. Or e.g. some of these software to record any VOIP calls http://www.penbaynetworks.com/index.php

Unless you live in the deepest, darkest corners of the corn land, or far in the deepest Alaska, broadband of some sort should be the default internet option available. Not just for speed but also for cost.
And if you're still paying for your phone service more than $ 1,70 a month (to quote the annoying MagicJack ad)... well, landlines are pretty redundant in most places now.

Ah,technology. If your PB can boot into classic, why not try that and see if you can run your older programs under OS9. Oh yea, tone it down a bit, things do change and its not anyones fault!
