Verizon Email Switch To Aol: Icloud Questions

I have been getting my email via Verizon FiOS POP and Mac Mail.app, but now Verizon is turning its email servers over to AOL and there are several things about this that I dislike, not least of which is AOL. Therefore, I am considering abandoning Verizon email and moving all my email activity to iCloud. There are several questions I'd like answered before going further:

1. My current Apple ID is my Verizon email address. Ditto for my wife. If those email addresses become invalid, is that a problem and what can be done about it?

2. How good is iCloud spam detection?

3. Wife and I each have a couple of Verizon email addresses. Can iCloud provide multiple addresses for one Apple ID? If not, would it be sensible to get around that by getting multiple Apple IDs?

It is good that you are checking out the particulars before you end your verizon account.

1. You can change the email connected to your Apple ID in Apple ID setting via the web. https://appleid.apple.com/#!&page=signin
Of course, you need an alternative email address to do that.

2. I have Apple’s Mail on my desktop to handle the spam. There is no setting in iCloud’s web base for handling spam filters.

3. Apple use to allow email aliases so you could have several emails attached to one Apple ID. You can check that out when you set up an @icloud.com account - https://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html

Having more than one Apple ID can cause confusion, especially when you need to remember which ID is on which device and with what password. The idea is to have one Apple ID that connects iTunes and App store to your computer/computer user.

No, the Verizon address IS the Apple ID. Maybe it doesn't matter what the ID is.

So do I. But any decent ISP should filter spam. Are you saying that iCloud does not?

I don't see anything on that page about setting up aliases or mail sub-accounts.

I already have two Apple IDs, one dating from Mobile Me or earlier, and it is a bit of a nuisance because something (iTunes?) insists on my logging in with the old ID. There seems to be no way to kill an old Apple ID.

However, if I set up an ID and use it for nothing but an email address I think I could keep them straight. It could be a problem juggling mailboxes. I'd probably have to move everything I want to archive from the server to the local computer.

Come to think of it, does each Apple ID come with 5 GB of storage?

iCloud spam: I am saying there is no settings for you to play with in regards to spam in iCloud. If there is any spam filter it is behind the scenes.

Use that link to set up an iCloud account - there is a link to do so within that article. And you should be able to find the set up for aliases.

Yes, iCloud comes with 5 GB of Storage. Along with using iCloud drive to store documents, etc. You can use all the perks that come with the email account or just use what you need/want.
