Video Freeze

I've tried everything offered. I've rebuilt my desktop. I've reset my pram and PMU. I've asked around. No one knows. I have a powerbook g3 500mhz I'm running imovie. I have an oxford 911 external drive with firewire. I've been producing half hour movies for a few months. It used to work, sort of. I could never get video to play from my external, so I would copy it to my internal to export to the camera. This taxed the internal. I only have 6 gb open on my internal drive, but it worked. Then, it got progressively worse. I can't play imovie any more. It freezes. Any ideas?

I did some looking and found that having Quicktime 7 with macos 10.3.9 can cause exactly the symptoms I have. Does any one know how I can get quicktime 6 or how to lower the version I have?
