Video to Animated GIFs

I can't really seem to find anything on this topic anywhere.
You know those nifty animated gifs you see of actual video in people's forum signatures?

Well I'm wondering if there is an application or some way to do this in QuickTime Pro. If not (I've searched "everywhere" already, no luck) is there a Windows App that anyone could reccomend? I guess I could fire up VPC if need be.

File > Export > Export Movie as Picture > Options… > Animation

Of course, you'll need to edit the gif in ImageReady or something to get it down to a manageable pixel size (50x50 or 48x48 or whatever)

Hmm, when I export a video clip to an Animation, I get a single-frame .pct file.
Am I doing something wrong?
