help! (please)

i used to be able to do this and now i can't — : like if i'm opening a photo in photoshop, or picking one in browse to attach to a message, i'd get a preview in the open window and now i don't--

any suggestions?

also, windows used to stay open the way i had last opened them like if i had them sorted by date rather than name, it would open the same way the next time.

thank you--

lily

Well, Bob meant in the Finder. I don't know if you meant just Photoshop. But if your browsing for a photo using finder, then Apple and J, or Bob's instructions, should show that option.

i get preview images for no images, not jpegs, not tiffs, nothing. i don't even get a preview column.

nor do i get a choice for a preview column in any view option dialogue box.

thanks!! hope we can figure this out!!

In the open/save dialog box, there should be two buttons just to the right of the "right arrow/left arrow" buttons at the top of the window. The first is for list view, the second is for column view.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally click the "list view" button there?

ok--i've gotten the photoshop window to show me previews by putting it into the column mode, so thank you!! however it doesn't seem to be able to see tiffs :^( any ideas why that would be?

so that's a big help.

so now i want the same kind of previews (and just jpegs are ok for this....) for uploads.... how do i do that?

It all depends on the program, I guess... what do you mean when you say you want previews for "uploads?"

Also, TIFF's byte encodings can either be Macintosh or PC, so if it's a PC TIFF, then that may be why you're not seeing a preview.

hey!! it's working now for uploading too (like to email) — thanks!!!

the tiffs, like the jpegs, were created in photoshop 6 using mac 9.1 and saved in mac format. the previews of the tiffs are visible in 9 but not in X !! ?? !!

Strange... sometimes it helps to open them and then re-save them. Some image formats allow you to save the file without a preview at all. I don't think TIFF is one of them, but if you open then resave a problematic TIFF file and the preview shows up, you may have found a solution...

i'm really appreciating this help--thanks:

ok: i see that the tiffs i created in photoshop cs do show up; i have many thousands of tiffs, so it would be a gigantic hassle to open them all then resave them in cs, but at least that's an option. can you think of any others?

ok, and back to the earlier problem:

ok, let's say i want to attach a jpeg in email

you hit browse and a browser window shows up. i now have it set up in columns so yes, i do get a preview BUT ... the list itself in the middle column is sorted by name and i really need it to be sorted by date.

is there any way to change that?

i've tried playing with things in view options, but nothing seems to stick.... :^(

The only thing I can find, is pressing Apple and 2, then pressing the Date header to list the items by date. Problem is it's not in column view.

Hi,

I also have problem with previews.
This is how things are set up:

1) Canon Digital Camera
2) iPhoto 2.0.1 on Mac OS X 10.3.8 Panther
3) Photos are imported from camera using iPhoto

Problem:
For the photos that I have to rotate (using iPhoto), there is no preview at all (see attached screen capture) :( The other photos are ok (as can be seen in the screen shot). What is the problem here and how can I fix it???

Can somebody tell me how to save screen captures from Grab in formats other than .tiff? Its really troublesome to have to capture in .tiff and use Preview to export it to jpeg.

I started using the mac only one year ago.
So far, managing music with iTunes is great :)
but working with images had been a real pain :(
I can't get the previews to work properly...
And why is Grab NEVER enabled in the "Services" menu and why does it save only in tiff?
Is there any software besides ACDSee that allows a full screen viewing of images at actual size? Preview always shrinks my images to fit the screen in Full Screen View ::sleepy::

some images come without a preview image in their info. :)

YOu can set your "column view" in Preferences in the finder, which you get to by clicking the desktop and going right to the menu bar and selecting Preferences. Select open new windows in column view.

hey folks,

unfortunately the "icon view" button is missing in all these open file dialogs - I guess this would be the best way to preview the images, for example when uploading images.
Does anybody if you can activate "icon view" in these dialogs? tweak the finder somehow to show this missing button - or any short keys to activate that view?

thanks in advance
:)manne
