When i navigate to a website with discussion pages on, i can only see the text for as long as the page is loading, but as soon as it is completed all the text disappears.
I also have trouble with navigating through drop down menus, there should be multiple choice to select from, but on my ibooks, i cant see any of the available options and the selection box in completely blank.
This has only happened in the last week or so, as i was able to read text and also see drop down options before that.

i wondered if it might be anything to do with a software upgrade that i may have done, as i have them automatically.

what is also very strange, is that i have 2 ibooks and 1 dell laptop working on the same wireless connection, and this text problem has affected both of the ibooks at the same time, but didnt affect the dell laptop ?
do you have any ideas ?
thanks

Hi Bex,

A few questions. What browser are you using? (you should try a few to see if its the program or the connection somehow). Also, what system version are you using, it sounds like its OS X since you mention software update but it helps to know, and what kind of iBooks are they?

Also, the update you mentioned, what was it? Was it something like the recent Java update that could effect browsers, and did you apply it to both iBooks?

This should help me or someone else here work out what is going on.

ora

Hi,
I am using the following:

Mac OS X 10.3.9
Safari
Hardware Overview:
Machine Model: iBook G4
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.07 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 256 MB
Bus Speed: 133 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.8.5f0

The other ibook is a similar spec to that i have quoted above, but it is 4 months newer.

here is a copy of my software update log for 1 of the ibooks, do you think it is something to do with the java security update (4.0) on 17th september or maybe security update 2005-008 (1.0) on 24th september ?
both ibooks had the same software updates within days of each other, as they advise automatically, i just go ahead and update them. Is this not the right thing to do ?

thanks for your much needed help,

Have you tried resetting Safari? The option if available in the File menu once you have Safari running. BE WARNED THAT THIS WILL RESET ALL SETTINGS TO DEFAULT WHEN YOU FIRST RAN IT!! So back up your bookmarks and all.

Could you post a link to the site(s) you're having problems with? Without that, it's impossible to say if it's something wrong with your setup or just an incompatibility with Safari.

In any case, I recommend downloading either Camino or Firefox to use as a secondary browser for cases when Safari bugs out on you.

hi,
someone else advised firefox, so i downloaded it , but how do i change it to my secondary browser?

the website with the drop down menu is ebay, contact customer services.
However, unless you have a ebay account i am not sure that you can access it.
I tried with my dell laptop and i can see all the options, but alas on my ibooks, i can't.
its slowly driving me mad !!

So, to answer the question of '... someone else advised firefox, so i downloaded it , but how do i change it to my secondary browser?' (in your second reply, of your first post) - launch 'Safari' and select the 'Safari, Preferences' menu item. Click on the 'General' toolbar icon button, and from the 'Default Web Browser:' popup menu select 'Firefox' (or, via the 'Select...' button - navigate to and select 'Firefox', and then click on the 'Select' button). Close the preferences window.
