VLSI Layout using Magic

I was wondering if magic will work under Mac OS X. I downloaded the newest version from vlsi.cornell.edu and tried their instructions for installations under unix but had no luck. Can someone please help simplify this process. I am a student and use magic on 15 yr old AIX machines and it is driving me crazy.
