Volume on startup

Hello,

I have a new dual 1ghz MD PowerMac. When I start the machine the opening chime is tremendously loud. Is there a way to turn that down or off? It comes out the built in speaker and not my USB Harmon/Kardon iSub and SoundSticks.

Turn the volume down in the Sound Pref pane, On most Macs, that also affects the start up chime. You may have to experiment a little between alert volume and output volume to see which affects startup and still leaves you with normal volume to speakers.
