Wake/Sleep Problem under 10.2

I've experienced intermittent problems with waking my G4 from sleep and have finally determined the culprit to be Screen Effects.
Here's one scenario: Screen Effects enabled; Hot Corners enabled; Energy Saver enabled with the monitor set to go to sleep before the CPU. If I drag the cursor to the hot corner, Screen Effects does not start but instead my monitor goes to sleep and no matter what I try, other than restarting, nothing will wake it up. Another scenario: Same as above except if the machine is left alone and the Screen Effects are activated after the allotted time, then when the monitor goes to sleep that's the way the system remains and the CPU never goes to sleep and I am still left with an unresponsive system until I restart it. At other times it all works as it should. As I said this is an intermittent problem and I got tired of trying to figure if there was a conflict with another program. On any number of occasions I thought I had found what was causing the conflict, but upon disabling the other program I still could reproduce the problem. After three reinstalls I gave up and simply do not use Screen Effects and I have had no more sleep/wake problems. After one of the clean reinstalls and before I had reinstalled any other software, I still had trouble waking my machine under the conditions as described above. Anyone else had similar problems to this involving Screen Effects?

If I ever try to access screen effects my computer crashes (mouse moves but no response).
