These last few weeks I have been looking at hundreds of weblogs for inspiration for my own. Wow, what a mix. Some are really cool diaries, some are so out there that all I can do is stare, some are so beautifully designed that it doesn't matter what they contain, and yes, some are really boring.
Back when MTV came to the part of the world I grew up in (where the buffalo and antelope roam) I remember being utterly entranced by music videos. It was so different and cool and I could sit there and stare for hours at the screen. Of course after a couple of years when it became less about videos and more about everything else I lost interest.
The thing about weblogs though is that they are so totally individual in a way that MTV never could be or rock and roll could only dream of being. For less than the cost of a mobile phone I can broadcast who I am to the world, well the part of the world that is wired anyway.
Maybe weblogs aren't so much an artform as much as a new means of expression and in keeping with our 24/7 world they are very ephemeral.
No matter the classification they are awesome and I find myself drawn to some like a bee to clover and sometimes for reasons I don't really understand. Will my attraction be as fleeting as it was with MTV? Or,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
