Weird colors on Macbook pro

Hi, I was working on my dads macbook pro when all of the sudden the colors changed to what seems like a limit of 16 colors, when I check display settings it says millions of colors and when I restore the color profile nothing changes..

I tried resetting the pram aswell but this didnt help either.

The odd thing is that when I startup the colors are normal, but as soon as I sign in they change..

also.. I cant define the refresh frequency.. the selection box is empty. Detect display doesnt do anything.

Very annoying..

hope someone can help.. thanks in advance!

Have you reversed the colours?

System Prefs/Universal access. Change "White on Black" to "Black on White"

I have just stumbled across the exact same problem (same symptoms). So I BUMP this thread and hope that someone will know what to do.

If I log in with another account it's fine.

I tried the WhiteonBlack/BlackonWhite thing, no change.
I tried removing the iMac color profile, but no change.

EDIT: I found the problem. In fiddling with Universal Access, I tried sliding the contrast around - and that was the cause of the horrid looking screen.

I still have no idea how that happened, but glad it wasn't anything serious. Does Mac automatically muck that about if I reduce the brightness?

I happened to mess up the Universal Access playing a game on steam. Thanks for the tip, thought something was wrong with my motherboard.
