Western Digital Drive not responding

My old 30GB Western Digital Firewire drive is not responding after a power outage. I can see it listed in the system profiler, but it does not mount. It's making an odd clicking noise. This is reminiscent of what happened when I upgraded to mac os 10.3.9. Can't remember what I did then to get it to work. HELP!!!

So far, tried resenting the PRAM, NVRAM, disconnected the device for 10 min., disconnected the MAC for 10 min, unplugged and replugged the firewire cord.

HELP!!!!

A rhythmic clicking isn't good -- more often than not, it means that some component of the hard drive has failed. There is no part of a hard drive that is user-serviceable.

Some report success resurrecting their hard drives long enough to get the data off by freezing the hard drive (sealed in plastic bag) for a few hours, then immediately connecting it... something to do with warping the metal just enough to unstick a stuck head or something. It may or may not pertain in your case.

At any rate, I'd consider the hard drive dead. If the data is of any value, a professional data recovery service like drivesavers.com is always an option.
