What auto-expands web addresses?

On some Macs I can do this and on others I can't, and I don't know what controls it.

On some Macs, in Explorer or Netscape, I can type something like "macosx" in the Address field, and it auto-expands to "http://www.macosx.com/". But on other Macs, I just get a "server not found" error.

What is it that controls this behavior?

Thanks!!!

Nope... at least not on the OS 9 machine I'm using now. Strange thing is that this machine used to be able to do it no problem. I'd just type a word, and off it would go to the .com instance of that word.

Right now it's doing something even different than either working or not working... If I type "apple" and just press return, it spends about a minute looking for apple, then suddenly loads http://www.apple.com.

But holding Control doesn't seem to matter.

On other Macs I use, I type Apple (or whatever) and it immediately goes to that .com site. (No, it's not address auto-complete. I could type something new like "fishusa" and that works too).
