The hierarchy changed in OS X, and the character I used to use (IIRC it was "~") doesn't work anymore. I've never been happy with the substitutes I've found, so far (like "?"; it's just too clunky and conspicuous).
What are you guys using?
[NOTE: The character displayed above as "?" was supposed to be the Greek letter omega. That's what I entered via the Character Palette. But I guess the forum doesn't support those characters.]
