What does rc suffix stand for?

A file with ".rc" at the end is usually a resource file. This filetype can contain settings for certain apps or daemons. There are also files that start with "rc," such as those in the "rc.d" directory. This directory contains many of the BSD-style init scripts that run (depending on configuration) during the boot process or shutdown process, such as rc.3, rc.samba, rc.modules, or rc.0.

AFAIK "rc" as in "xinitrc" stands for "run command".

I've also heard of 'rc' to mean Runlevel Control.
