What happened to PC Compatability Cards.

I remember when OrangeMicro and others used to make physical PC compatability cards for PowerMacs, as Macs get more and more powerful, and more widestream, the only thing that frustrates me as waiting months and years for game titles to reach the Mac platform... I'd think that a hardware card that could rely on existing ram and 3d graphics cards would be a worthwile alternative to trying to build a separate gaming system.

I doubt it's viable these days. most decent gaming systems these days have a heatsink/fan the size of your fist on them. no way that will fit into a PCI slot.

plus it's probably easier to do that sort of thing through software...

Somewhere in OS 8.something PC card support was dropped, I was discussing this with my wife the other day, if someone would make one that would work with OS X it would be awesome, now that M$ bought out VPC. If they made a card with say even a 1Ghz AMD (I hate intel) on it, I would think it would blow the doors off of VPC. I remember my 6100/66 DOS machine, back in the day and both the 601 and the itel chip were 66Mhz and boy it still felt like emulation, until I bought Softwindows and tried it, sure made that DOS fell fast. I do realize the issues involved around that actually happening, especially PCI bandwith issues. Anyway, I can dream....

I love my mac and can do everything i need except one thing.
i'm sick of waiting for games... and i know that things are getting better
but I WANT DOOM III now!!!

and i would feel kindof sick to my stomache if i built a PC...
oh well.
