On my computer it's:

OS X - Mephistophilis
OS 9 - Faustus

on my GF's:

OS X - Frog
OS 9 - Toad

I've been known to name mine after famous Scientists.

So I usually use Darwin for the main drive.
(pun is actually intended here)

I'll also use Tesla or Einstein for my Classic partition.

SA:)

We usually name our Macs main hard drives after a theme.. in this office it is ToyStory2 and Monsters Inc.. [son works for Pixar].. so Woody, Bullseye, Slinky, Zurg.. you get the idea.

My partitions:

Mac OS X 10.1.5 (main)
Spare parts and Games (spare parts = if I mess up my main partition)
Classic & Muziq (OS 9 and downloaded Music)
?mega (not in use currently)
10.2ß Jaguar (6c48)
BackUps (not in use)

Drive 0
Drive 1
(My Main disks)
Media Disk (for my movie files I am working with)
Firefly (my external FW HD)
Ooooops (My small partition with a clean X install just in case I mess something up bad!)

Sorry, that's just a partition. Thanks for playing.

The most popular OS X disk name is, without any doubt,

-- thunder roll--

/dev/disk0

:)

fileserver: white-library.middleearth.net
(where you will find everything)
quicksilver: osgiliath.middleearth.net
(the capital of the domain)
tibook: helmsdeep.middleearth.net
(the outpost)
ibook: shire.middleearth.net
(the colorful, shiny place where you everything is slow, calm and nice)
linux webserver: isen.middleearth.net
(the river providing the realm with life)

does that make up for the boring hdd names??? [/B]

ROFL!!! Yep, it does make up for it ;)
I particularly like your ibook's name!

Mine is "Sytem disk" and "Software Disk"

not verry good, but i´m never confused when i wanna look into my files.

System Disk: OS 10.1.5 / 9.2.1
Software Disk: OS 10.1.5 server.

My old Powerbook (PB150) was Shaggy, my old Perfroma 5260 was Scooby, and my iBook 600/combo is Scooby II. I don't like any of the other characters :)

Some time ago my ol' cat, God rest her soul, made a habit of sleeping on the hot CRT of my IIcx. She particularly enjoyed clawing at After Dark's bouncing ball.

While stepping on the keyboard she managed to name the hard disk "KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK". In her memory I will always have a hard disk named "Kat".

I guess I'm not very creative with my main system drives..

MacOS 9 HD
MacOS X HD

Then for my firewire drive..

FooBackup

I'm curious, does anyone know where the term Foo came from? It's seems to always be used in all kinds of places where a generic term or name needs to be used. Was there a Mr. Foo in the history of the computer sciences?

yeah, I like subtle irony and poking fun ridiculous PC limitations, so whenever I'm not naming files with slashes in them or with leading or trailing spaces in the name to explicitly mess with the system, I like to make fun of them subtly.

Also, if you ever format a floppy in your mac again, name it A\ ... it'll make you smile, honest. :)

Actually, if you name a folder C/\ and then view it through in the terminal, it lists the file as C:\

It amuses me a LOT.

I may be wrong, but I believe it's derived from "fubar". You'll see "foo" and "bar" used especially when it comes to programming.

Well mine has changed since i had 2 major crashes.

First Name after G4 purchase...

Urbansory

After First crash...

Urbansory2

After Second Crash, i purchased an additional drive. I made 5 partitions, 2 on one drive and obviously 3 on the other...

Urbansory(OS X)
Urbansory(OS 9)

Scrath Bin
Urban Storage
Urbansory A/V

A/V is audio video storage, scratch bin is for downloads, cashes, and scratch disc 1 for all my apps. Urban Storage is the home to my professonal work. The other two are for each operating system, which I setup prior to intalling X. I actually had virtual PC on my X partition before installing X.
