What software do I need?

I've never seen a thread about this but does anyone know what software, and I guess what hardware I would need to convert 16mm movies to DVD. My Father shot 100s of reels of film over the years and I would like to convert them to DVDs so everyone in the family can have a copy, and to send copies to relatives.
Any help or pointing in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

I use MPEG Streamclip. Seach for it at www.apple.com/macosx/downloads

I also use Compressor, a software that came with my Final Cut Studio package.

That looks good, but how do I get the 16-mm film into the computer to begin with.
