What's ....installer.exe , how do I open it?

When I click on it to install a program it asks me to choose an application. What's to choose?

.exe files are executable files for Windows/DOS based machines. Depending on what application you are trying to install, there may be a Mac version of that and it would more than likely have the executable stored in a .dmg (Disk Image) file. You can run .exe under Virtual PC with Windows on a mac however, but it wouldnt be running in the Mac OS, it would be running in the emulated version of Windows.
 
If you have an installer.exe and you don't know what it is, it's most likely a virus/ spyware for Windows.

And as stated by El Alcahuete, it won't run on your Mac.
