iDVD will handle just about any video file for which you have a QuickTime codec. H.264 and MPEG-4 are standard parts of QuickTime. MPEG-2 is the format of video files burned to DVD. They iDVD, like every other DVD authoring app, does the conversion. AVI is a container format that supports video and audio tracks in several formats. If you have the proper codecs for the video and audio tracks such as the DivX codec, then iDVD will handle your AVI video just fine.

is it better to burn a video using mpeg 4 or 2 instead of avi - meaning, is it better to go directly to idvd with either mpeg file instead of avi?
I am asking being I have been having issues with idvd not burning to the disk - I wait for a couple of hours for the program to convert, and it says its done, but nothing burns - and messages are conflicting - says done, but shows 9 minutes left.
has happened a few times - many hours lost trying to get this to work and it just won't.
any thoughts?
